    Creamy taco sauce

Creamy taco sauce without any processed ingredients. Made with whole foods and guaranteed not to leave you bloated! Packed with flavor, easy and healthy!

Creamy taco sauce in a jar with a wooden spoon

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Silk. The opinions and text are all mine.

It's been too long, a sauce is needed. Ok, well maybe it's only been a week, salsa is kind of like a sauce. But I was missing my random sauce creations.

So when Silk asked me to join their new meatless Monday night football food campaign, I knew it would lead to something saucy. This creamy taco sauce is just a sneak peak of the goodness, just the tip of the iceberg. Head on over to my vegan 7 layer dip to see the amazingness of it!

    This Sauce is Awesome!

Super creamy, but without the dairy, with a fabulous taco like flavor. The prefect creamy taco sauce. Other than in the delicious recipe I made it for, my vegan 7 layer dip, we've used it on a ton of stuff. Tacos, wraps, sammies, licking it off the spoon. You name it.

Like all my other sauces, it's good for anything and everything! Plus it's a "throw everything into the blender" type of recipe. My favorite and perfect for that little extra oomph you want to add to your dinner!

    Equipment

    • Blender

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup water , or for an extra creamy version use cashew milk
    • 1 ½ cups raw cashews , see note
    • 5 teaspoons fresh lime juice
    • 14 teaspoons distilled white vinegar  (¼ cup plus 2 tsp)
    • 4 teaspoons chili powder
    • 3 teaspoons cumin
    • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
    • 1 teaspoon sea salt

    Instructions

    • Place water, cashews, lime juice and vinegar into a blender and blend until smooth.
    • Add chili powder, cumin, garlic powder and salt. Blend again until mixed well.

    Notes

    • It’s best to soak cashews over night but if in a hurry you can soak in hot water for 2-3 hours or boil for 30 minutes. You can also grind them dry with a coffee or spice grinder.
    • This makes about 2 cups sauce. Serving size is 2 tablespoons.

This sounds delicious! What is the replacement if some family members have nut allergies?
Please include the Nut replacement for the Asian sauce as well! Thanks

Hi Yvonne, sorry to hear about the nut allergy. I wish I could give you a great replacement but unfortunately cashews are my favorite way to get dairy free creamy results. I don't try other ways usually since we can use nuts. I have heard some people use sunflower seeds, but the flavor is pretty strong. I also see people use silken tofu, but again the flavor will be different. Some of my other creamy sauces (like my cheese sauce and Alfredo) some nut free readers used extra potato and white bean mixes, or left the nuts out from my cheese sauce, and still liked them. You can read through the comments and see what people did. I can't vouch for any of it myself though because I have not tried it. As for the Asian sauce, I am not sure which one you mean. You'd have to comment on that recipe directly. Thanks!

I'm confused. Where does the cashew milk come into this recipe? Do you use it in place of the water, the cashews or both? I found this recipe from your 7 layer dip post but you mentioned using cashew milk. Thanks

Hi Bella! I was confused too, LOL!! It looked like the info I put in the recipe after the water ingredient was cut off. All fixed now! Yep you just sub the cashew milk for the water for an extra creamy version.

Hi Presley! Most sauces like this are good about 5-7 days in the fridge!

I'm excited to try this! Would it turn out any different if I use almond milk instead of cashew?

I never leave ratings on anything but I loved this sauce so so so much. We used it on veggie tacos and then on power bowls. It’s amazing! I’ll be making this again

This recipe came through my email and it was perfect timing. Taco Tuesday was on the menu and I was working on creating a sauce for them, but had limited time to play in the kitchen. This was great, quick and I had everything! And it was DELISH!! I did add a little kick to it for the hubs and I but the kids liked it. This sauce was used for the hubs lunch bowl and will be on my lunch bowl today. Thank you!!!!

So happy you liked it Tami! I add some spice to mine too but the rest of my family can't do spice so I decided to keep this recipe family friendly. But you can never go wrong with some kick added in!!

When I woke up to this email, I knew I had to make time to read it before we head out of town because....SAUCE!! Salsa kinda counts, but not really, as a sauce ? This sounds sooooo good!!! Just by reading the ingredient list, I know I'll love it and will probably put it on everything or just eat it with a spoon. My first thought was tacos or taco salad!! Mmmmmm!!!

I made an Asian sauce last week that is cashew based...coming to the blog soon. We should hold a sauce tasting party soon. 🙂 Looking forward to the other part of your recipe!!
