Barbecue Tahini Sauce. Barbecue plus tahini equals pure delicious ecstasy! The versatility of this sauce is amazing and so is the flavor. It's your next must have condiment!

Barbecue tahini sauce in a glass jar with a spoon scooping some out of the jar

I like barbecue. I like sauces with tahini. So why not combine the two?? I don't know!!! One day it just hit me. So I did it...and it was amazing! Simple whole food ingredients are combined to make this incredibly versatile sauce.

This Barbecue Tahini Sauce Is Life

It's mostly tahini based, with a homemade barbecue twist, versus a barbecue sauce with a touch of tahini. It's a dip, a sauce, a dressing, a drizzle...you name it! I used this in so many different ways since it's creation. Including just diving in face first and licking the jar I kept it in. Not even kidding. Every single way I had it was amazing! I'm sure there are many more ways waiting to be discovered too! In fact be on the lookout for my next post on one delicious recipe using this incredible sauce!

    Ingredients

    • 6 tablespoons tahini (¼ cup plus 2 tablespoons)
    • 10 teaspoons tomato paste (3 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon)
    • 2 teaspoons maple syrup
    • ¾ teaspoon garlic powder
    • 3 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
    • 3 teaspoons molasses
    • ¼ teaspoon liquid smoke
    • sea salt , to taste
    • ⅛ teaspoon chili powder , optional for a small kick
    • ½ cup water (can use more or less depending on preferred consistency)

    Instructions

    • Place ingredients into a high speed blender or food processor and blend until smooth. You can also just use a whisk or fork to mix well if you have a good quality smooth tahini.

    Notes

    • Adding more water will make it more of a drizzle or dressing, less water makes it more of a dip. I’ve used it both ways and they are equally as great.
    • Chili powder optional for extra spice.
    • Recipe makes about 1 cup, serving size is 2 tablespoons.
Ways To Serve This Barbecue Tahini Sauce:
    • Add a touch more water and drizzle over salads
    • Spread on bread for sandwiches

Just made this alongside dinner tonight and my partner and I were literally eating it up with a spoon!!! It's so darn yummy and just takes a couple minutes (if that!) to throw together 🙂 🙂 Thanks for the great recipe!

Made it earlier girlfriend and it was delicious!!! I tagged you on Instagram. It is addicting...it's almost like the more bites you have the more you want, lol! I loved the beautiful color and you are right, it is definitely more tahini flavor with a hint of bbq and not vice versa. I made it exactly as you listed except for just adding one more teaspoon of tomato paste. I added 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/2 heaping teaspoon chili powder. It was yummy in my tummy and I'm doing fries next!!! I bet this would be awesome on burgers too!

Thanks SO much for trying it so fast! I totally agree on the more you eat the more addictive it becomes lol! That's why I kept putting it on everything. Love the extra tomato paste, in fact I was going back and forth between adding one but the hubby said too tangy. I can see it though. Good choice! And of course the added spice is awesome. I'm totally making my own batch with loads of spice once I get a feeding break from this babe! And it would be awesome on burgers. I tried it with fries and it was amazing! You're going to love it!! Thanks so much again! Your sweet chili mustard is next for me!
