This is one of my favorite recipes ever! I love the apple and cinnamon flavors together and when it bakes it smells incredible.

Apple cobbler, apple crisp, apple pie, and even an apple pie smoothie! There are so many apple desserts out there! Cobblers are great because you get the yummy filling flavors paired with a biscuit topping, without having to mess with rolling out a pie crust. It's a simple as mixing the filling, dolloping dough, and baking!

    • Cashew or almond milk

    Serving suggestions

This cobbler is divine served warm, but it's also great cold! No matter what temperature you serve it at, try upping the flavor with these toppings:

    • A scoop of dairy free ice cream
    • Vegan Whipped cream
    • Pumpkin Caramel Sauce

    Tips and tricks

For the best results when making this apple cobbler, follow these suggestions:

    • I measured the flours by scooping the measuring tool into the flour and then scraping the extra off with a knife. Make sure to measure the grams or use this method for accurate results.
    • Be aware of the almond flour you use because some produce less fluffy results than others, I use fine grain
    • Add a sugary topping by sprinkling sugar over the top when it's done baking. Broil for 1-2 minutes to get a brown crust.
    • Peeling the apples isn't absolutely necessary, however removing the skin results in a more uniform texture.
    • Try to chop the apples in similar size chunks so they cook evenly.
    • The flavor of the apple will affect the flavor of your cobbler. For a sweet taste, use red apples, honeycrisp, or gala. For a more tart flavor use green apples.

    Common Questions

How do you make a cobbler from scratch?

Mix chopped apples with filling ingredients then pour into a baking dish. Top with biscuit dough and bake! See the recipe below for more information on how to make an apple cobbler.

Why is a cobbler called a cobbler?

There are a few theories for this, but the general consensus is that the topping resembles a cobblestone road.

    Why is my cobbler runny?

Runny cobblers can be caused by using fruit that is too juicy, or if it hasn't had enough time to rest. The filling will thicken upon cooling, so if it's too runny let it sit a little longer before digging in.

What do you serve cobbler with?

One of the best ways to serve cobbler is with a scoop of ice cream, a dollop of whipped cream, and a drizzle of caramel sauce.

Do you serve cobbler warm or cold?

    Either way it tastes great!

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup oat flour
    • 1 cup fine grain almond flour
    • ¼ cup potato starch
    • 1 tablespoon baking powder
    • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
    • ⅛ teaspoon sea salt
    • ½ cup maple syrup
    • 3 tablespoons cashew or almond milk
    • 4 teaspoons vanilla extract
    • 4 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
    • 1-2 teaspoons cane sugar for topping , optional

    Filling:

    • 3 cups chopped apples , about 2 apples
    • ¾ cup maple syrup
    • ½ cup almond butter
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    • 1 ½ teaspoons cinnamon
    • ¼ teaspoon sea salt

    To serve, optional:

    • Dairy free whipped cream
    • Dairy free ice cream

    Instructions

    • Preheat oven to 350 F (175 C).
    • Peel and chop apples.
    • Mix the rest of the filling ingredients in a bowl and stir until combined well. Stir in the apples.
    • Add filling to a square baking dish (8 x 8 or 9 x 9).
    • Put oat flour, almond flour, potato starch, baking powder, cinnamon and sea salt into a medium mixing bowl. Whisk until combined and there are no clumps.
    • Make a little well in the middle of the mixed dry ingredients. And pour in maple syrup, milk, vanilla extract and apple cider vinegar.
    • Slowly combine with a spoon or spatula, mix until just combined but don’t over mix. Allow to sit for a few minutes, use this time to put away the ingredients, put used items in the sink and wipe off the counters.
    • Drop spoonfuls onto the filling, you should get about 9 large spoonfuls to cover the top.
    • Bake for 30 minutes, ovens vary but you want it to be just getting brown on the tips.
    • Sprinkle sugar on top, if using, and broil for 1-2 minutes to get a golden brown.
    • Once done, allow to cool completely. Then serve, add topping of choice it you want.

    Notes

    • I measured the flours by scooping the measuring tool into the flour and then scraping the extra off with a knife. Make sure to measure the grams or use this method for accurate results.
    • Be aware of the almond flour you use because some produce less fluffy results than others, I use fine grain.
