We love making sweet treats that also have some nutrition built in, and my boys love bananas! We have grown to love using this recipe as a fun dessert bar for parties or just a fun family night!

These frozen banana pops are so easy to keep as a vegan treat. All you need to do is make sure you are using vegan chocolate to drizzle over the top, and that whatever other toppings you add are vegan!

How to Make Chocolate Covered Bananas

These are the easiest healthy treat ever! Dole originally created these as a Dole Icicles recipe as inspiration from the movie Disney’s Frozen 2. They are perfect for a holiday, winter themed party or just an anytime treat. You can even make them at the party as an activity!

Frozen banana pops are just the best treat with the most simple ingredients. They are super versatile with a variety of toppings options too!

    Ingredients

    • Bananas
    • Dairy free chocolate chips
    • Cake pop or crafts sticks
    •  Coconut flakes
    • Dried fruit
    • Nuts
    • Sprinkles
    • Cookies

    More Topping Ideas

It's so fun to mix up the toppings each time you make these chocolate covered bananas! Here are some of our favorites:

    • Chopped nuts - walnuts, pecans, almonds, pistachios, macadamias
    • Dried fruit - coconut, blueberries, cranberries, figs, apricot
    • Nut butters - nutella, peanut butter, almond butter, sun butter
    • Sprinkles - get festive and make them match holidays with different colors
    • Chocolate candies - chocolate chips, cacao nibs
    • Crushed cookies - Oreos, Nutter Butters, Thin Mints, Biscoff
    • Graham crackers - get the kind without honey to keep them 100% vegan
    • Crushed pretzels - find gluten-free if needed
    • Cereal - Cap'n Crunch (original, berries, or peanut butter!), Life, or your favorite
    • Chopped up candy - see my list of vegan candy for ideas!

    Preparation Tips

    • For the sweetest flavor make sure to use bananas that are very ripe, but not overly ripe.
    • If you are coating the bananas you'll need 2 cups or chocolate, but only 3 tablespoons if you're just drizzling.
    • The easiest way to melt the chocolate is in the microwave, but the stovetop works as well.
    • Coconut oil will help to smooth out the chocolate making it easier to work with.
    • Use any toppings you like, just chop or crush them into tiny pieces to keep it easy to eat.

How to Make Bite Sized Frozen Bananas

If you don't want to make these as bigger banana popsicles, you can also cut them into slices and make them that way.

    • Put the slices on parchment paper in a single layer.
    • Drizzle the slices with the chocolate
    • Add the toppings
    • Freeze as directed in the recipe
    • Use a fork or butter knife to help peel them off the paper

    Storage Tips

Once you have these made up you'll want to keep them on hand for easy treats!

    • Allow them to freeze completely on a parchment covered cookie sheet.
    • Once frozen, carefully peel them off the parchment, breaking off any chocolate that has pooled on the sides.
    • Store them in single layers with pieces of parchment paper in between in an air tight container.
    • Freeze for up to 2-3 months.

    Bonus Freezer Tips

If you have bananas that are on their way to getting over ripe, it's great to freeze them. This will give you an easy treat any time you need it, so many things you can do!

    • If you will be using them in recipes, such as smoothies, cut them into slices and put them in plastic freezer bags.
    • You can also layer them between sheets of parchment and store in an air tight container.
    • Peeled bananas should keep for 2-3 months, but if you keep the peel on they can last up to 6 months!
