Anyone else live on strawberry milk as a kid? I LOVED the stuff! Seriously, some days more than chocolate. But it was literally sugar, with some added food coloring and flavoring.
I don’t think there was anything actual strawberry about it. Especially the kind in powder form, omg that was so bad! Am I the only old lady that remembers the tin can?
So, when my kids jumped on the bandwagon, I set out to give them something that didn’t make me cringe. I am actually shocked how good it tastes and how much it reminds me of being a kid.
Homemade strawberry milk with natural sweeteners
This homemade strawberry syrup is simply 2 ingredients plus water, and I love that. It’s so simple and has none of the crap.
The strawberries and dates are the perfect combo of sweet to make this fully loaded in flavor. You could also swap the dates for maple syrup if you wanted.
Once you get the syrup done, you just keep it in the fridge and mix with milk when the mood strikes, read daily.
The key to the best end result is the milk. I love a variety of plant based milks, but for this recipe I really love the coconut. It’s richer than others and pairs so well with the strawberry.
I used my favorite Silk Unsweetened Coconut Milk, you could use the sweetened kind but your end result will be much sweeter because even though the syrup has no added sugar, the natural sweeteners bring a strong sweet game!
This also still tastes amazing with the Unsweetened Cashew or Almond so use what works best for you.
How do you make vegan strawberry milk?
This homemade strawberry milk recipe is so easy. 2 ingredients, plus milk of choice. It’s the perfect afternoon treat so your kids don’t act like they’re in the circus.
- Boil the ingredients.
- Put them in a blender and blend the heck out of them.
- Strain to get the thick pulp out, then heat again to get the thickness you like.
The perfect Valentine’s Day treats
Second to Halloween, Valentine’s day is a moms worst nightmare. The amount of treats that these kids come home with is insane.
So I have compiled a list of treats without refined sugar for you to use as bribery, take it like a trade agreement and work that sales pitch to the mini dictators:
- obviously this Strawberry Milk
- S’mores Chocolate Lava Cake (still better than the ring pops they brought home)
- Brownie Batter Bites
- Strawberry Shortcake
- 2 Ingredient Instant Frozen Yogurt
Homemade Vegan Strawberry Milk
Ingredients
- 2 cups frozen strawberries
- 10 Medjool dates
- 1 cup water
Serve with:
- dairy free milk of choice , 8 ounces of milk per person
Instructions
- Put strawberries, dates and water in a medium pot, cover and bring to a boil. This takes about 5-7 minutes depending on your stove top.
- Uncover and boil for 5-7 minutes. You can keep it covered if your pot is large enough but taking the cover off will help make sure it doesn't boil over.
- Pour into a blender and blend on high until smooth. Careful because it will be hot.
- Once cool enough, pour through a fine mesh strainer or nut milk bag to get all the pieces out. Use a large bowl or even the pot you boiled it in. If using a bowl, return strained liquid to the pot and boil with the top off until it thickens to your liking. I did about 10 minutes. Allow to cool and transfer to an airtight container like a jar.
- To use right away, you can blend with milk right in the blender to get it nice and frothy, using about 2-3 tablespoons of syrup per 8 ounces of milk. Drink warm or allow to cool in the fridge.
- To store for later, place in the refrigerator. When ready to use, combine 2 tablespoons syrup for each 8 ounces of milk and mix well.
Notes
- I used frozen strawberries, but fresh will also work. Just watch it while it boils as you may need less time.
- If you prefer, you can also sub the dates with maple syrup. Start with 1/2 cup and test sweetness.
- Number of servings is for the syrup only.

Thank you xx

Hu Lucy! I’d say about a week? You can also freeze into cubes and defrost as needed!

Do you blend the wit the water?
veggiesdontbite says
You put the strawberries, dates and water in a pot and boil first. Then you blend that.

It’s a very good job I don’t have children (mine are adults now) – I fear they wouldn’t get a look in with this… not after I’d carried out extensive ‘testing’ on it!
Thank you so much for allowing me to share this on my Perfect Vegan Valentine round-up. The post is now live if you want to check it out (an’ y’know, share it around a bit)!
